Jesus: The Real Food and Drink – How He Lived by the Father -John 6 Explained (DCLC – July ’86, Part 2)

And now He tells us all what He’s been doing for the last 48 hours. And I want you to listen to Him. He says that He’s been doing exactly what he just invited us to do. Listen to the Christian tell you how He lives the Christian life. Are you ready? Here it is in black and white. I’m going to read it all; this is just as clear as it can be. I don’t see how I could have made it any clearer.

For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed, and He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood is in Me and I am in him. And now He makes a “just as.” Okay? “Just as.” Same thing. I’m going to tell you something else; it’s the same thing. Tell you something different; that’s the same. Just as the living Father sent Me, and I live by the Father, so the one who eats Me shall live by means of Me. What will I do? I eat the Son of God in order to live. And when I do that, I do exactly what the Son does. As the living Father has sent Me, and I live by Him by partaking of Him, he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives by Me.

Now, how do you live the Christian life? Tell me. By eating the Son who is partaking of the life of the Father. He lives by means of the Father, and you live by means of the Son. I said something the other day, and I was firmly on scriptural grounds. In fact, dear Christian, I’m firmly on Christian ground on scriptural grounds on anything I say, or I wouldn’t say it, even if you’ve never heard it before. What the Father is to the Son, the Son is to you. What is the Father to Jesus Christ? He is the Father. He is life. The only life. The only life that lives the Christian life, that life is Spirit, and that life is life. And that life became bread, and when it became bread, it became the Son, and it became available to us. The Son had eaten and drunk of that life and pictured in the wilderness that this would one day happen on earth. And then it happened on earth.

And now He is on earth and He’s continuing to do what He always did: He is living by the Father, He is drinking of the Father, He is eating of the Father, He is living by the life of the Father, which is the only life that can live the Christian life, He’s doing it by eating and drinking, and He is taking that life and giving it to you and me. And if I, in turn, will eat His flesh and drink His blood, I will live by Him who is life, which life is Spirit. And I will eat of Him by the same means He ate of the Father, exactly the same way. And if I eat of Him and drink of Him who is life and Spirit, I will live by means of Him just as He lived by means of the Father. And if you listen to this about 30 times, you’ll get it.

Now, then, everybody starts walking off, and Lord wants to know why they’re walking off. Y’all don’t understand. Wrong vocabulary. They’re talking about one thing; He’s talking about another. He’s talking about Life; they’re talking about life. He’s talking about Eating; they’re talking about eating. Different planes. He’s talking about Drinking; they’re talking about drinking. They’re talking about the physical. He’s talking about the spiritual. They’re talking about a body with flesh and blood. He’s talking about a Spirit. Why is He doing that? Because He’s used to doing that, because that’s where He’s lived most of His life. Look, He’s only been here 33 years, folks. He’s a foreigner, and He hasn’t quite caught on to our language yet. And He’s actually trying to raise our language up to His, instead of bringing His language down to ours. Do you not understand? He’s trying to bring your language up to Him, and He’s also trying to bring you up to Him. But I don’t want you to try to correct the vocabulary of God and the viewpoint of God, and I don’t want to stop and think one moment tonight about how you will live a Christian life. I want you to see the Lord Jesus Christ eating of His Father, drinking of His Father, and living by His Father’s life, and just keep looking at Him doing that.

Nonetheless, the issue did come up. How are we going to eat your flesh and drink your blood? And people just walked off. Well, Lord said, I won’t be raising them up on the last day. He looked at one of the elect, and He said, “You want to go with Him?” But one of the elect spirits said, “No way.” One of the elect spirits said, “I may not have broken through eternity into time, and this guy may not yet be born from above, but He’s going to be.” And his spirit was calling out, “No way you’re going to go up with them. He’s got the words of life; He’s got the words that’ll tell you how to get to the Father. He got the way to that life; don’t you dare run off now. Lord, you have the words of eternal life. Praise the Lord. One day, one day that which is in God is going to have God in Him, right after the resurrection.

Now, then, they are troubled over the flesh and the blood. He says, “Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot. I’ve been talking to you using the wrong words. Excuse me. I didn’t mean my flesh and my blood. I am speaking of life and Spirit. Isn’t this the life and spirit verse? Oh, I’m sorry. I stand corrected. I am Spirit…say it with me. You were correct. Spirit and life.

Now, what life is spirit? God’s life belongs to another realm. And what spirit is there that is the life of the Father? The Father’s life. The Father’s life is the life that is Spirit. And the spirit that is life is the Father. Well, that simply means that I get to do what Jesus did in eternity past. He ate the Father and drank the Father, in reality. He did it by means of His Spirit. Praise the Lord.

Now, how am I going to eat and drink the Son of God? I am going to run down to the Catholic church on Sunday morning at 5:00 a.m. and take a wafer and some wine. No, I have a spirit in me. I have in me, in fact, exactly the same Spirit that is in the Lord Jesus Christ. I am a redeemed believer.  And my spirit knows how to eat. My Spirit knows real drink. What does my spirit know that I don’t know? Tell me, Gene. I’m not going to tell you anything. You know what I’m going to tell you to do? I’m going to tell you to look at the Lord Jesus partaking of the Father and living by means of Him; that’s what I’m gonna tell you. Gene, how will I know how I can eat of the Father and the Son, and drink of the Son, and how I can use my spirit to eat of life and drink of life? Well, you just missed the whole point. I’m not going to tell you that. I’m going to tell you to look at Him eating and drinking of the Father and living by the Father.

Do you have eyes to see? Do you have ears to hear? Do you know what I am telling you? Do you? What am I telling you? Is there anybody in here who will take my words and interpret them? I want you to stand up and interpret them. If you’re wrong, I’m going to shoot you down. I want you to stand boldly and tell me what I’m telling you. Alright, I’m waiting for a bold brother or sister. Alright, Robert. Try it.

Audience: Jesus Christ is going to live the Christian life.
