Galatians 6 Bible Study: Sow to the Spirit, Glory in the Cross, and Live as a New Creation in Christ

What does it really mean to sow to the Spirit? What happened to us—and to the world—through the cross of Jesus Christ? And what does Paul mean when he speaks of a new creation?

In this message from Galatians 6, Gene Edwards explores three remarkable passages that point beyond ordinary Christian living into the deeper realities of our life in Christ.

Beginning with Galatians 6:8, Gene considers Paul’s words about sowing to the Spirit and reaping eternal life from the Spirit. The Christian has received something that does not originate in the visible, physical realm: a human spirit capable of knowing and fellowshipping with the Spirit of God. Rather than merely learning more about Christianity, believers are invited to discover and live from this spiritual reality.

The message then turns to Galatians 6:14:

“May it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Gene explores the extraordinary scope of the cross of Christ. Paul declares that through the cross, the world has been crucified to him and he to the world. The cross is therefore much more than an event to admire from a distance—it stands at the center of God’s work in bringing the old creation to an end and introducing something entirely new.

This leads to one of the great themes of Galatians: the new creation in Christ.

What remains when the old creation, the old Adam, sin, and the world have been dealt with through Christ’s death? A new creation characterized by Christ Himself, righteousness, holiness, and a people who have been brought into union with Him.

Finally, Gene reflects on Paul’s closing words in Galatians 6:18: “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.”

This Bible teaching invites Christians to move beyond merely understanding spiritual truths intellectually and begin discovering the reality of Christ within, fellowship with God through the spirit, the power of the cross, and life in God’s new creation.
