Forever One With God • Jun 15th 1992
What if your redemption was already a finished reality before the world even began? In this moving message, Gene Edwards explores the “Eternal Now,” revealing a God who completed His masterpiece before the first brushstroke was ever made. He invites us to look beyond time to an eternal Cross that “vacuumed up” our sin and old nature, leaving them forever in the grave. Gene Edwards explains that because we were “born crucified,” we now stand fully justified and glorified in Christ’s sight. This reflection is a sincere invitation to rest in the mystery of a Father who has held your name in His heart since before the foundation of the world.
I want you to understand that before this universe was created, it was destroyed by a cross that existed before this creation. That cross was destined to destroy a creation before it ever came into existence. That all things were sucked into that cross, and not all things came out on the other side of that cross. Now, I want to tell you what came out on the other side of that cross. That cross, if I may, like a vacuum, sucked up death, sucked up sin, sucked up the law, sucked up the unbeliever and the believer, sucked up your flesh. It was brought into the cross like a great vacuum, and this whole creation from “Let there be” to the point where all things end; this entire creation God created was brought up into that cross that had already crucified it before it was created.
I want you to understand that on the back of the neck of sin were the words “born crucified.” On the neck of death were these words, “born crucified.” On the neck of creation itself were the words “born crucified.” On the neck of the law were the words “born crucified,” and on the neck of every preaching and every devotion and every sermon and every book that demanded that you do something to please God, who had already seen you holy and blameless and perfect in His sight in Christ, and one day, one with Him again as you had been one with Him in eternity past, on all those sermons and all those laws and all those rules and all those long skirts, and all of those and all of those rules about ties, and tithing, and all that anybody has ever put you under as long as you have lived on this earth, and all the other people who’ve ever lived or ever will live, there was marked on those sermons and those devotions and those teachings and those theologies that chase everything towards “born crucified.” Amen.
The law was crucified, and the ordinances were crucified, and the Sabbath was crucified, and goodness was crucified. The goodness of the tree of the knowledge of good was crucified along with the evil knowledge of good, that all things had upon their neck born crucified, and that includes the carpenter. On Him were the words “born already crucified” born in Galilee and Nazareth with Mary, with Him, with the flesh of Mary wrapping Him up, and she had a Lord indwelling her. He was born crucified. So was she.
I will remind you; you were born crucified. All these things you can’t stand were born crucified. That cross came along and took Christ, and in taking Christ, it took everything that was. Everything that existed in that old creation existed in Him. Everything that existed in the old creation had its existence in Him. He held it together. It was in Him, and in taking Him to that cross, that eternal cross, sweeping Him up, vacuuming Him up, also came all the other things that were born crucified as He was born crucified. I just told you, and I’m going to tell you again: sin, death, sins, you and all of this cosmos and everything in it were drawn up into that cross, and it all died as surely as He died. Listen to me. How dead were you that day? How dead were you? You were as dead as Christ was dead that day.
They took Him who was the carrier of all things and put Him in a grave. And the eternal one came up out of that grave. I want you to know that that grave is also not on this earth either. That grave is also in eternity. It’s a pit, and all things God created, everything He created, could not come out of that grave. Everything. Everything, everything that got created couldn’t get out of that, couldn’t climb out of that grave. Why could it not come out of the grave? Because it was dead. Sin couldn’t get out of that grave; it was dead. Death couldn’t get out of the grave; it was dead. And your old nature couldn’t get out of that grave because it was dead.
There was only one thing that came out of that grave. One thing, and put an A and a B under that one thing. There was only one thing that came out of that grave. Nothing else. All those things that went into that cross and into that grave, nothing came out of it, except one thing. The Lord Jesus Christ came out of that grave, and you and I don’t see this creation as ended yet, but you see that the cross is above creation. God has already seen this creation, literally, not seen it with the eye of His mind; He has literally stood and seen this very creation go into that eternal cross. He saw it at the end, sucking up…vacuuming up all things, and He saw it all go into death. That’s why He feels so good about you. He can’t see you. You’re dead. Well, I sure would appreciate it if He would see me. No, you don’t really want Him to see you. Hear me, dear child of God. You don’t want Him to see you because part of you, your flesh, a lot of other stuff about you, that I don’t understand completely, went into that grave and stayed there. You don’t really want that to come out again, and it couldn’t come out.
The only thing that came out of that grave, with everything sucked up into the cross and then thrown into that grave, the only thing left, I cannot say in the universe because the universe was gone, by that cross that took it all, the only thing that came up out of that grave was the Lord Jesus Christ…and only one other thing. All of that which was in Christ before the foundations of creation. Hallelujah. That’s all that came out of that eternal grave and that eternal cross and got beyond it: it was that which was there before it, and the temporal – all the temporal – is gone.
Well, I don’t have anything more to say to you. This is what happened before the foundation of creation. Praise the Lord. Now blameless ones and holy ones, sanctified ones, justified ones, holified ones, glorified ones: go home and try to decide whether or not God loves you. For I am persuaded that neither life nor death, nor principality, nor things past, nor things to come, nor anything else that ever has been or ever will be can separate me from being in Christ before the foundation of the ages, and being in Christ during creation, and being found in Him after creation is over. Praise the Lord for I, and you, have been and are in Christ in the eternal now. Praise the Lord. Hallelujah.
Lord, thank you and praise you, and open the eyes of our hearts that we might understand a revelation: see and experience and know a revelation of Him in whom we are. Praise the Lord.
