Beyond Bible Study • Dec 17th 2011
Is it possible to have the Bible in our hands but leave the Lord Jesus Christ off the stage? In this candid message, Gene Edwards explains why many home gatherings become “stuffed with information” yet remain spiritually dry. He argues that a true church is built on the experiential reality of the indwelling Christ, not merely analytical study. Gene Edwards draws from decades of experience to show why we must be broken and learn to touch the Lord personally. This is an invitation to move past religious systems and rediscover the unrelenting life of the first-century church. We invite you to listen and consider if Christ is the living center of your community.
With 53 years of being in the ministry, actually, I’ve been in the ministry 59 years, but 53 of them very active. But with 41 years in planting home churches, churches that don’t have clergy, brother, you’re not prepared. You can’t handle it. Please let someone show you how to know the Lord. Let someone point you to the cross of Christ. Someone who will show you the revelation and the experience of Jesus Christ. You can’t find it in your denomination, and you cannot find it in any seminary on this earth or Bible school. You’re going to have to be that one rare human being who gets up and says, I’ll go to the ends of the earth to find out what God’s people were really like in century one. And I don’t want so much to preach to them, or be their leader; I want to be one of them.
