The Bride of Christ: What It Means to Be the Wife of the Lamb

What does it mean for the Church to be the Bride of Christ—and ultimately the wife of the Lamb? In this powerful Christian teaching, Gene Edwards explores Revelation 21, the Bride of Christ, Christian marriage, and the unique spiritual calling of women in the Church.

Rather than beginning with the question, “What is a woman’s place in the Church?” Gene turns the question around. He asks us to consider how women can reveal something profound about the very nature and character of the Church—the woman Christ loves.

This message focuses especially on married Christian women. Gene contrasts the pictures of a single woman, a bride, and a wife to illustrate different dimensions of the Church’s relationship with Jesus Christ. Marriage brings responsibilities, pressures, ordinary duties, and—in many cases—the demands of raising children. Yet Gene challenges married believers to consider whether the life of Christ can become even more visible in the midst of those responsibilities.

The message ultimately leads to Revelation 21:9 and John’s vision of “the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

Here Gene finds a breathtaking picture of the Church in her maturity: filled with the glory of God, radiant, complete, precious, and beautiful. The Church is not merely waiting for a wedding day. Scripture points toward a glorious union between Christ and His people.

This teaching offers a thought-provoking perspective for anyone interested in:

Gene Edwards challenges us to see the Church not primarily as an organization built around positions, offices, and authority, but as a people whose character expresses a deep relationship with Jesus Christ.
