What if your dearest, most deeply held doctrines are standing between you and God? Gene Edwards suggests that the greatest danger facing a devoutly religious person is not worldliness, but being so “straight jacketed” by personal dogma that they become incapable of receiving God’s reality. This message explores the incredible paradox of John the Baptist—whom the Lord called the greatest man born of women, yet one who never entered the Kingdom of God in time and space. Edwards contrasts John’s standing with the call for “violent men” who take the Kingdom joyfully, by grasping it even when it is “out of season”. We must examine whether our sectarian nature or prejudice might lead us to reject Christ if He returned in an ordinary way and did not agree with our specific interpretation of the truth. Listen and be very careful about what you believe, for it can stand in the way of truly knowing the Lord.
