Needed: A Revelation of Jesus Christ • Jul 01st 1992
What does it mean to have a true revelation of Jesus Christ? In this powerful Christian teaching, Gene Edwards explores one of the deepest needs of the Church: not simply more doctrine, methods, spiritual gifts, or religious activity, but a revelation of Christ Himself.
Drawing from Ephesians 1, Ephesians 3, Galatians 1, and the life of the apostle Paul, Gene examines Paul’s prayer that believers would receive “a spirit of wisdom and revelation” in the knowledge of Christ. He challenges Christians to consider the difference between knowing teachings about Jesus and having the eyes of the heart opened to see Christ in a deeper, experiential way.
Throughout Christian history, believers have often emphasized particular aspects of the Christian faith—spiritual power, healing, prophecy, evangelism, discipleship, authority, doctrine, spiritual gifts, and other practices. Gene argues that when one element becomes the center, Christians can lose sight of the One who should be at the center: Jesus Christ.
Christianity is ultimately not an “it.” It is centered in a Person.
As Gene puts it, salvation itself is not merely a plan or system. Salvation is found in Jesus Christ. The Christian life begins with Christ and must continue to be centered upon Christ.
This message invites believers who desire a deeper Christian life to reconsider what spiritual growth really means. Rather than continually searching for the next method, movement, doctrine, or Christian experience, what if our greatest need is to see Jesus Christ more clearly?
